With a lot of moving parts, it’s difficult to keep track of everything you need to do come moving day. That’s why we help our customers by giving them essential moving tips to make the process seamless. If you have plans to move soon, consider these moving tips …
Make an essential Moving Tips List and Stick to It
The best way to stay organized during a move is to make a list to ensure everything that needs to be done gets done. To do this, make a list of everything that needs to be done before, during, and after your move. After that, make a realistic time table about when you think you can get each task done.
Making an essential Moving Tips list
To make an organized list, simply make a 3 column table on lined paper – a small left column, a large middle column and a small right column. The left column is for your time. Estimate how long the task will take, write it down (ex: 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.) and write the corresponding task in the middle column (ex: Move boxes from upstairs to outside). When the task is complete, put a checkmark in the right column.
Do this for all tasks to have a more organized, stress-free move.
Stock Up on Moving Supplies
When it comes to moving you’d rather have too much packing material instead of too little. Set aside at least 10 boxes for last minute items, and be sure to have a lot of heavy duty trash bags on hand. Try to use bubble wrap and non-printed paper to wrap your items.
When you have a surplus of supplies, it saves time and money.
How does it save time? On moving day, every minute counts. For instance, if you suddenly run out of boxes and need to make a 30-minute errand to pick up more, your timetable becomes compromised. This can cause unneeded stress and turn a 1-day move into a 2-day move.
How does it save money? When you run out of official moving supplies, it’s tempting to use cheap replacements. For instance, if you run out of bubble wrap, you may decide to use the thin, weak newspaper that was left out in the rain the day before. If you wrap something delicate in this and bump it, it can incur scratches or break completely. You don’t want this to happen, especially if you’re moving expensive items like fine china, artwork, accent tables and other valuables.
Double Check Setup Times with Utility and Cable Companies
The last thing you want is a new home without electricity, running water or a working phone line.
To make sure this doesn’t happen, call your local utility and cable companies a week or so before the move to confirm when everything will be turned on. Also feel free to give them a call on the day of the move to make sure they aren’t behind. Although it seems redundant, many smart movers do it and utility and cable companies expect them to.This entry was posted in Tips and tagged Essential Moving Tips, moving list, moving plan.
